Last week saw our first formal PowerPoint competition and the Beckenham launch of our global campaign to improve the use of visual aids in the workplace..  Congratulations to Katerina, James and Vince, in winning order.  That club teenagers are competing on merit with experienced adults now is a great reflection on their courage and tenacity.  Well done!

"Mean what you say" evening

Congratulations to all members who gave such diverse, interesting and sometimes moving accounts in the "mean what you say" evening.  From play therapy, the drought and the power of 'brands' to Kony 2012 and David Beckham; we certainly had great variety.

Speaking with conviction adds the real power to your words, and we will certainly build on this during the year.

14th December 2011 - An Average Adjuster

Robert Noble returned to the south-east from working in Greece for over a decade just two years ago, and what a phenomenal impact he has made on the London Speaking scene.

Robert regularly supports three speakers clubs, utilising his tremendous presence and speaking skills to the full. Robert was a Corporate Challenge 2011 finalist and made a huge impact on the audience and judges alike. In December 2011 he was guest speaker at a fund raising event for the English-Speaking Union where he made a compelling presentation on modern day piracy (a theme which affects his every day life as an 'Average Adjuster'). Robert came to the club as a confident and experienced speaker, and I know that he would tell you that since he has become a regular member at Beckenham Speakers Club, through a number of high profile opportunities made available to him, he has found an extra gear and extra joy in his speaking.

24th October 2011 - Corporate Challenge

The College of Public Speaking Corporate Challenge 2011 was a major success on October 24th at the English-Speaking Union's Headquarters in Mayfair. Ten finalists spoke to a one hundred strong audience on the theme of 'You make a living from what you get, you make a life from what you give.' A quotation attributed to Winston Churchill. Five independent judges, led by Chris Bates were staggered by the quality and diversity of the interpretations of the theme. Following a long deliberation the results were announced in reverse order: Third - Jason Ashwood (Beckenham Speakers Club Chairman) of the Metropolitan Police, Runner-up - David Jones from the Natural History Museum. The 2011 Corporate Challenge Champion is Andrew Chuks who runs Winner's Edge, his own training company, pictured with Chris Bates.
